Visit
The highlight of a visit to Ashland is the guided tour of the 18-room mansion. A guide welcomes you at the front door to begin your journey through the Clay family mansion and time travel from the 18th century to the present. Guided tours of the mansion take approximately 50 minutes. Additional time may be spent visiting the permanent Henry Clay exhibit room, watching an informational video about Henry Clay, taking the self-guided tour of the outbuildings, strolling the formal garden and walking trails, shopping in the Museum Store, or having a bite to eat or a refreshing glass of iced tea at the seasonal Ginkgo Tree Cafe (open mid-April through mid-October, weather permitting).

The Ginkgo Tree Cafe
Lunch at the Ginkgo Tree Cafe — in the shade of Ashland’s historic trees and among the geraniums and fragrant gardenia bushes — is the perfect complement to your Ashland visit. This popular outdoor cafe, named for the Ginkgo trees at Ashland, is located on the brick patio around the old smokehouse.
Open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM from mid-April through October, weather permitting (please call Ashland if weather is questionable: 859-266-8581).
Reservations are required for groups of 7 or more. Large groups are always welcome for lunch, but please call ahead and check with the cafe manager: 859-221-5666.
Gourmet box lunches are prepared off-site and brought in fresh daily. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, hot and cold soups, (famous!) homemade desserts, snacks, and beverages. Vegetarian selections are available.
